Frequently Asked Questions
What level of league should I play? +
We have A, B, and C divisions.
As a rule of thumb, A is for advanced players, B is for intermediate (or “bar/garage”) players, and C is for beginners and casual players. If you’ve never played before, we recommend starting in our C division.

How do I register for the league? +
If you have a team of players (minimum four), register the whole team with our team signup form. We can also help you figure out a home bar, too — just note that when you sign up.
If you’re a free agent looking to join a team, email info@scvda.org for help with finding a team.

How much does it cost to play in the league? What does this fee cover? +
League dues are $25 per player. This covers DartConnect software (which provides real-time match tracking and player stats), occasional venue equipment upgrades, and the end-of-season awards banquet. You will also have use of a free DartConnect "Guest Account" during the season.
How long does the season last? +
Each season is fourteen or fifteen weeks of play, with breaks for some holidays when needed. There are generally two weeks of playoffs at the end of the season, plus one additional week for our banquet and awards party.
Our two seasons run approximately Jan–Jun and Aug–Dec.

What do I need to play? +
Just a set of steel tip darts! They can be purchased on Amazon or from a local darts supply store. The league can make recommendations, if desired.
A tablet is helpful for scorekeeping, but is not mandatory. (It is helpful if at least one person on each team has an Android or iOS tablet.)

What is the match format? What games are played? +
The exact format varies by division, but each match is a mix of 501, 301, Cricket and a "Team 01" game. There are 15-17 legs played per match, which are split into six separate rounds of four slots per team.
What does playing in the league involve? +
We have two league seasons per year (approx Jan–June and Aug–Dec). Matches are weekly at 7:30pm (currently only Thursday evenings). Each match takes about 3 hours to complete.
It is not necessary to be able to attend 100% of matches in a season, as most teams have a roster of more than the required 4 players.

How do I report scores? +
DartConnect is our official source of truth for scoring. That said, all team captains must send a photo of the scoresheet to scvda-results@googlegroups.com within 24 hours of the match start time. This gives us a reliable backup in case any scoring discrepancies need to be reviewed or corrected.
How do I pay dues? When are they due? +
Dues can be paid via cash or check (payable to Santa Clara Valley Darts Association) given to the Treasurer, or made via credit card online through CheddarUp.
Note that the online payment link changes each season, so look out for an email from the board with the link sent to the Captain's Mailing List. You can also find the link in your Captain’s Packet.
If you want to pay via cash or check but don’t see the Treasurer, you can arrange to mail your dues or handoff your payment through specific bar locations. Contact the Treasurer directly to arrange this, if needed.

How do I add a player to my team after the initial roster submission? +
Use the Player Add Form. Remember, the deadline to add new players to a team roster is the halfway point in a season.
What if I lose a player after the “player add” deadline? +
Players may not be added after the “player add” deadline (at the halfway point of the season). However, if your team loses a player, you may replace that player, regardless of week in the season.
